Screamers
There is a perception that images of women screaming show their frailty and fragility. In these paintings I explore the idea that a woman screaming is her way of taking up space, showing up for herself. I show women screaming to express the rage, frustration, and summoning of power required to challenge the unacceptable world in which women find themselves. I used black and white horror film publicity shots as reference and isolate the scream to highlight the significance and gravity of the act.
