Ancestors
These paintings are about memory. I draw from family photos—my own and friends’. What we think of as “memories” are molded by these images of our younger selves, our friends, family, and strangers. It becomes difficult to differentiate between real history, people, and places and these status images. Things at the edges get fuzzy, hard to define. Faces blur. We create our personal narratives from these images that are frozen in time.
